There are many new tax laws presently in effect. I will highlight some of them here. For more details, please give Mitchel's a call.

1. Perhaps you might want to take advantage of a Roth IRA.. If you have earned money, and you meet the income requirements, you can put aside $4,000 (for singles) or $8,000 (for married people). Beginning in 2004, the interest you earn on it is tax free. There is also a ROTH Conversion, which can be very complex. Please call for more details.

2. Are you paying educational expenses for a college student or yourself? You must make a choice of taking the Hope, Lifetime or Education Credit OR taking the direct tuition payment as a deduction directly form your gross income. Your decision is dependant upon your adjusted gross income. We can help you make the right choice.

Also, the availability of the 529 Plan will require an understanding of tax-free saving and spending for your children's future. Allow us to help you position your finances to ensure that your future will be the most financially secure.

3. Student loan interest is deductible. Tax planning for these new tax laws is crucial. You need to plan ahead, which should be done all year round, not just during tax season.

4. Changes made to the Marriage Penalty have been passed. This year -- whether you itemize or file a standard return -- you can take advantage of significant tax savings. Let us explain how you can benefit from these changes.

5. The Child tax credit was changed two years ago, and recently updated, affecting your return for 2003. Some taxpayers -- with children under 17 and within certain income parameters -- received a check as an advance for tax year 2003. It's important to know whether you received this child tax credit already, or if you can file for it on this year's return. It's not too late to take advantage of this benefit.

6. The limits have been raised for Roth IRA's, Sepp IRA and 401(k). If you are over fifty, the IRS is allowing you to even invest extra.

Note: Please understand that there are a lot of new tax laws. Some are being phased in over a few years. It gets quite confusing. However, we will help you fully understand.

I will be happy to schedule a meeting or arrange a phone consultation at no charge for our current clients or for those viewing our web site. Please call for an appointment.
